    Evolution characteristic of gypsum-salt rocks of the upper member of Oligocene Lower Ganchaigou Fm in the Shizigou area, western Qaidam Basin

    Over years of oil and gas exploration in the Qaidam Basin, reservoirs have been discovered in many layers. In the Shizigou area, western Qaidam Basin, the upper member of Oligocene Lower Ganchaigou Fm is an important target for oil and gas exploration, and gypsum-salt rocks are the high-quality caprocks for the preservation of oil and gas reservoirs in this area. For predicting oil and gas exploration direction and target in the western Qaidam Basin and providing guidance for its oil and gas exploration deployment, its depositional characteristics and environment of gypsum-salt rocks in this area were investigated based on the core observation, thin section identification, and analysis of grain size, sensitivity parameter ratios (Sr/Cu, Fe/Mn, (Fe + Al)/(Ca + Mg), V/(V + Ni) and Pr/Ph), pyrite content and inclusions. The following characteristics are identified. First, gypsum-salt rocks are mainly distributed in the depocenter of the lake basin and their thickness decreases towards the margin of the basin. They are laterally transformed into carbonate rocks or terrigenous clastic rocks. They are areally distributed in the shape of irregular ellipse. Second, gypsum-salt rocks are vertically developed mainly in the middle and upper parts of the upper member of Lower Ganchaigou Fm and they are interbedded with carbonate rocks or terrigenous clastic rocks. Their single layer thickness changes greatly, and there are many layers with good continuity. Third, Sand Group III to Group I in the upper member of Lower Ganchaigou Fm (inter-salt) are of reductive water environment of semi-deep to deep lake facies due to their sedimentation in an arid and hot climate. It is concluded that gypsum-salt rocks of the upper member of Lower Ganchaigou Fm are distributed widely with great accumulative thickness in this area; and that they are originated from deep lake water by virtue of evaporation, concentration and crystallization in an arid and hot climate instead of by hydrothermal fluid.     Litter mixing promoted decomposition and altered microbial community in common bean root litter

    Abstract Background Decomposition of plant litter is a key driver of carbon and nutrient cycling in terrestrial ecosystems. Mixing litters of different plant species may alter the decomposition rate, but its effect on the microbial decomposer community in plant litter is not fully understood. Here, we tested the effects of mixing with maize (Zea mays L.) and soybean [Glycine max (Linn.) Merr.] stalk litters on the decomposition and microbial decomposer communities of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) root litter at the early decomposition stage in a litterbag experiment. Results Mixing with maize stalk litter, soybean stalk litter, and both of these litters increased the decomposition rate of common bean root litter at 56 day but not 14 day after incubation. Litter mixing also increased the decomposition rate of the whole liter mixture at 56 day after incubation. Amplicon sequencing found that litter mixing altered the composition of bacterial (at 56 day after incubation) and fungal communities (at both 14 and 56 day after incubation) in common bean root litter. Litter mixing increased the abundance and alpha diversity of fungal communities in common bean root litter at 56 day after incubation. Particularly, litter mixing stimulated certain microbial taxa, such as Fusarium, Aspergillus and Stachybotrys spp. In addition, a pot experiment with adding litters in the soil showed that litter mixing promoted growth of common bean seedlings and increased soil nitrogen and phosphorus contents. Conclusions This study showed that litter mixing can promote the decomposition rate and cause shifts in microbial decomposer communities, which may positively affect crop growth

    Metagenomic next‐generation sequencing for the diagnosis of Chlamydia psittaci pneumonia

    Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical characteristics of Chlamydia psittaci pneumonia and evaluate the diagnostic value of Metagenomic Next‐Generation Sequencing (mNGS). A total of 44 patients diagnosed with Chlamydia psittaci pneumonia using mNGS were retrospectively analysed. The demographic and clinical features, laboratory data, imaging findings and clinical outcomes were collected. Results showed that 65.91% of the patients had a history of exposure to poultry or birds. All patients presented with fever. Apart from systemic and respiratory symptoms, some patients also presented with digestive and neurological symptoms. Respiratory failure was common among patients. The key laboratory tests were normal white blood cell counts, slightly elevated PCT, changes in levels of cardiac enzymes, liver enzymes and hyponatremia. Chest imaging revealed that most of the lesions contained patchy exudation or lobar consolidation of one lobe, especially in the lower lobe. Consolidation of both lungs was seen in critically ill patients. Although quinolones were effective in most patients, tetracyclines should be the first choice of treatment. The overall prognosis was good; however, patients who developed severe pneumonia had poor prognosis. The incidence of chlamydia psittaci pneumonia may be underestimated due to the nonspecific clinical manifestations and lack of confirmatory testing methods. The use of mNGS has increased the number of patients diagnosed with chlamydia psittaci pneumonia. mNGS is an effective diagnostic method for chlamydia psittaci pneumonia
